187 Kentish Town Road, Camden, London

A new high-end 20-unit residential, commercial and cultural development on Kentish Town Road. The historic facade has been retained to maintain the original character of the building.

The site is heavily constrained on all sides by existing Victorian buildings, busy public highways, and the northern line tunnel beneath. The team fully embraced 3D modelling and coordination to ensure successful delivery.

To maximise the development potential, a new basement was constructed to house a state-of-the-art cinema with a 12m transfer structure installed above. To eliminate the requirement for deep structural sections, we utilised ‘super-elevation’ of the steelwork; purposefully building the structure too tall and allowing the building to ‘shrink’ to the correct height under its own weight as the construction completes.

SD Structures London Kentish Town Road

SD Structures have been instrumental in helping the team to coordinate the structure, existing facade, mechanical and electrical, and architecture…. on a complicated project comprising commercial space, a cinema basement and residential accommodation this proved instrumental to keeping the project on track.
