Welmar Mews
Clapham

The commercial renovation and extension of the historic Welmar Mews buildings sympathetically brought new life to the industrial stock following years of disrepair. Broadly our services comprised the following:
-The back analysis of the capacity of an existing five storey steel structure, and the justification for the construction of an additional storey comprising four flats and a trussed roof. The additional storey was designed with bespoke clear spanning timber trusses supported on a racking timber frame. Existing connections, foundations, bracing and column sections were exhaustively assessed and justified for the additional applied load, whilst a new steel framed composite structure was constructed at original roof level.
-Widespread modification of a traditional mews house to enable the construction of three new luxury apartments including a double height mezzanine space and full width glazed roofing.
– The strengthening of the existing deteriorated structural fabric of an existing three storey mews house, and the design of a new steel framed structure to provide an additional storey with infill roof terraces sprung off the existing masonry.
